Lesson 1: Introduction to the Work-Based Learning Continuum

Welcome to our series about bringing to life Ford NGL’s Work-Based Learning Continuum, or as we typically call it, the WBL Continuum.

Ford NGL believes that quality work-based learning experiences, when connected with

1) curriculum standards;

2) the community’s Portrait of a Graduate; and

3) with the thoughtful engagement of business and community partners,

help each and every student to discover, and feel confident about, their best first step the Monday after graduation.

The benefits of quality WBL, however, extend beyond students. Quality WBL has a positive impact for teachers, academy/pathway teacher teams, and the employer partner participating in it.

Because we believe this, we developed a set of webinars to set you up for success in planning, facilitating, and following up as it relates to key activities within the Work-Based Learning Continuum.

Our goal is to develop a common language about what each WBL Continuum activity is, and how you can plan a quality learning experience that engages teachers, students, and employer partners and supports the teaching and learning of Portrait of a Graduate skills and attributes, industry-relevant language, core curriculum content, and helps students see the value in what they are learning for whatever future they imagine for themselves!
