Designed to foster impactful connections and collaborative strategies, this event provides participants with insights into building sustainable school-business partnerships, addressing future workforce needs, and engaging the community in student success.

Session Description: The Academies of Louisville presents a series of Learning Exchanges designed to help business partners and educators collaborate on providing impactful student experiences. This session will explore two key topics:

Navigating the Future of Work: Preparing Students for Careers
In this reverse externship, business partners will share insights with teachers on current industry trends, essential skills, and career pathways. Learn about real-world challenges companies face and how to adapt classroom instruction to better prepare students for the evolving job market. Discover strategies for connecting students with networking and mentorship opportunities to support their career success.

Effective Communication with Gen Z
Delve into the communication styles and preferences of Gen Z to foster meaningful connections with students. This segment will cover techniques for using relatable language and creating open dialogues that resonate with today’s youth.

10:15: Session 2: Exploring Building-level partnership processes
Visit one of three high schools to examine how partnerships are structured at the school level.

Hear from CTE teachers, partners, and Academy Coaches on the dynamics of effective school partnerships.

Discuss the goals and impact of their governance structure.

11:15: Session 3: Breakout Sessions with AofL key roles and structures

Ambassador Leadership Team: The Student Ambassador Leadership Team serves as a representation of student voice for decisions affecting the 15 Academies of Louisville high schools.  Input from the Student Ambassador Leadership Team will provide context for decisions made by the Vision Team and Guiding Team.  Student voice is essential to ensure that the key initiatives, strategies, policies, and goals of the academy model in Jefferson County Public Schools are connected with those who are most directly impacted.  

Executive & Subcommittees: As part of their governance structures, Academies of Louisville utilizes an Executive Committee & Subcommittee structure to guide development of Guiding Team agendas and accomplish more detailed work to achieve the Guiding Team goals.  Subcommittees include Student Engagement, Business Partnerships, Communications, and Fundraising.

Vision Team: The Vision Team serves as a collaborative decision-making group representing all 15 Academies of Louisville schools whose work centers on key initiatives, strategies, and the overall development of the career academy model in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS).  The team consists of members from all school level role groups and district level divisions.

Work Groups: The work groups, consisting of staff from the district, workforce board (convener), and chamber, focus on aligning and integrating efforts across these three organizations to implement strategies developed by the governance structure groups. Weekly meetings of a Small Work Group and bi-weekly meetings of a Full Work Group ensure consistent progress and keep the work on track.
