Steve Pinning

Community Coach

Steve Pinning is a Community Coach with Ford Next Generation Learning. He was introduced to the Ford NGL model while working in Palm Springs Unified School District. Steve has always believed the career academy model is a powerful way to transform our education system. When he began working with Ford NGL he was impressed with the model and professionalism of the Ford team. When the opportunity to become a coach for Ford GNL arose, he enthusiastically joined the team.

Steve retired from full time education work as the Director of Academies and Career Technical Education (CTE) for the Palm Springs Unified School District.  He has also worked for the California Department of Education as the state administrator for the CTE Leadership and Instructional Support Office, and as the Director of CTE for the San Diego County Office of Education. Steve began his administrative career as a high school site administrator overseeing CTE, Mathematics, Science and Physical Education.

Steve holds a B.A.E. from Pacific Lutheran University with majors in General Science and Physical Education, and minors in Mathematics and Coaching.  He has a M.S. degree in Educational Administration from National University.  Steve retired after 38 years in education having spent 19 years as a classroom teacher teaching mathematics, physical education, computer science and programming, Earth Science and Physics, and 19 years in administration at the high school, district, county, and state level. 

Steve was the Association of California School Administrators Region 18 CTE Administrator of the Year for 2004-05 and again in 2010-11.  He also coached football for 20 years and track and field for 10 years.  Steve lives in Ramona, California with his wife of 45 years, Ann, and has 4 grown children and 7 grandchildren.
