As Christian County Public Schools opens its new Ford Next Generation Learning (Ford NGL) Designated high school, we have an opportunity that few communities ever receive. This is about embracing a new approach to preparing students for successful futures while strengthening the workforce that will fuel our local economy.

A five-year mission saw light at the end of the tunnel Thursday morning in Hopkinsville, as school officials finally cut the ribbon on Christian County High School — two weeks ahead of opening day. And the emotion was truly palpable.

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – After years of construction, the 350,000 square foot Christian County High School campus is finished, furnished, and open in time for the start of the school year. Located at 1 Tiger Way, the state-of-the-art school is a consolidation of two historic rivals in the city, Christian County and Hopkinsville High School. The campus aims to give students a chance to learn in a brand-new facility specifically designed for the academy model.

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Palm Springs Unified School District will host its annual College and Career Technical Education Showcase on May 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Palm Springs Air Museum, giving high school academy and pathway students a platform to show off the real-world skills they have learned throughout the school year.

The executive principal at Waggener High School said JCPS has seen increased graduation and post-secondary rates through the Academies program.

This model organizes a school into career-focused academies or pathways. These communities connect classroom learning with real-world experiences, often through partnerships with local businesses and organizations. By focusing on students’ interests and future goals, Ford NGL Small Learning Communities help prepare them for success in college, careers, and life — fostering both academic achievement and the development of essential skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. 

The School-Based Decision Making Council at Henry Clay has green-lit a shift to an academy model, according to a Monday news release. Henry Clay is the fourth school in Fayette County Public Schools to become part of the Academies of Lexington, joining Bryan Station, Frederick Douglass and Tates Creek.

As the super­in­tend­ent of the Jack­son­ville North Pulaski School Dis­trict (JNPSD), I know about the time it takes to imple­ment a policy. Just because I make a decision today does not mean that it’s going into effect tomor­row. 

Dayton Public Schools’ Academy Model is a cohesive PreK-12 approach to college and career readiness that prepares students for success in school, the workforce and life.

Host Robert Livernois focuses on career-related partnerships between schools and industry. He speaks with representatives from Macomb County, Ford Next Generation Learning, Romeo High School, Lanson, Incorporated, and Centerline High School about how these collaborations provide students with real-world learning experiences, job shadows, and internships.

“I have a three-day time period next week where I’m meeting with the Ford NGL coaches who have been working with Batesville, to really strengthen my understanding of Bulldog Ready and what our next steps for that are,” said Dr. Eastes.

The collaboration between Akron Public Schools and the chamber intends to bring classroom lessons into real-world settings.
